Black gram whole, commonly known as urad dal, maa ki dal or kali dal in India. It is used to prepare one of the world most famous dish from India known as dal makhani or kali dal.
While black gram cultivation and consumption was traditionally confined to the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, it is now ranked among the most commonly consumed pulses across India and Pakistan.
Upon cooking, black gram has a sticky texture and a bland and earthy flavour.
