Peanuts are commonly known as mungfali in India. They have a hard, nutty, and buttery taste and are packed with nutrients that offer a variety of Benefits.

Peanuts are originally from South America, where they were discovered by the Spanish and Portuguese explorers, who brought them to Africa from where they spread to the rest of the world. Today, China and India are the largest commercial producers of peanuts in the world.

Peanuts suffer from an identity crisis! As they have ?nut? in their name, most of us think that they are nuts, but they are in fact a legume. Their physical structure and nutritional benefits resemble legumes, but we use them in the same manner as other nuts.

Unlike nuts, which grow on trees, peanuts grow underground in a very fascinating manner. They start from the top of the ground and end up beneath it. Once the peanut seeds flower, they start to bend downward due to their heavy weight and gradually burrows itself underground where the peanuts mature and are after that harvested.

Peanuts have other common names like goobers, goober peas, groundnuts, earthnuts, monkey nuts, and grass nuts.
