Gulkand or Gulqand is a sweet preserve of rose petals from the Indian subcontinent. 'Gul' means flower in both Persian and Urdu and 'qand' means sweet in Arabic. Other names given to Gulkand are Rose Jam, Rose Petal Jam and Rose Petal Jelly.

Organic gulkand is made by placing the rose petals and sugar in alternate layers in a wide-mouthed airtight glass jar. This pot is put in the sunlight for 6 hours per day for around 3 to 4 weeks. On alternate days, the content of the pot is stirred with a wooden stick. Other ingredients, such as silver foil, cardamom seeds or Muktapishti (i.e. powdered pearl) can be added to enhance the cooling properties of the gulkand.

In Ayurveda, Gulkand is used as a tonic to reduce pitta and heat in the body. It is known to be a good remedy for acidity.

In India, it is mostly eaten with Paan as a mouth freshener and a digestive.

Cooling agent ? The cooling nature of organic gulkand is effective in reducing hyper- acidity and is used to treat gastric ulcers. It has been traditionally used as a cooling tonic to combat fatigue, lethargy, muscular aches, nausea, itching, and heat-related conditions.
Women?s health ? Organic gulkand is very useful in problems like heavy menstrual discharge. It reduces menstruation pain and also helps in treating white discharge in women.
Improves digestion ? Organic gulkand also aids in digestion. If it is taken in small quantities, it contributes to reducing the frequency of motion buts acts as a laxative if taken in large quantities.
Other Benefits ? Its cooling property is also effective in removing pimples and old blemishes from the skin that arise due to the heat in the blood. It also known to treat nose- bleeding, haemorrhage, vomiting of blood, frequent abortions, etc.
