Maize flour, known as makai ka atta in India, is made by pounding dried maize kernels. It is the second most widely eaten flour after wheat, competing with rice flour.
Maize is commonly known as corn in many parts of the world and is the most extensively cultivated cereal crop in the world. Almost every country in the world cultivates maize, and it is eaten in countless recipes and dishes worldwide. Maize is a staple crop, and many people rely on it for their food.
Maize is native to Central America, where it was discovered by Columbus during his explorations. Along with other explorers, he then took maize back to Europe and introduced it to the Europeans. From there, this crop spread all across the world.
In India, almost all 28 states grow some amount of maize, with Andhra Pradesh being the largest producer.
