Basmati rice has been grown for centuries in the foothills of Himalaya in the Indian subcontinent. It is a unique rice, which upon cooking has a delicious taste and distinct flavour and superior aroma.
In India, it is mostly grown in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and western Uttar Pradesh. In 2014, India was the largest exporter of basmati rice.
