Organic Groundnut Oil, Vision Fresh (500ml)
Organic groundnut oil is mild tasting edible oil derived from organic peanuts.
Groundnuts (also known as peanuts) originated from South America, where they have been around for thousands of years. Peanuts suffer from an identity crisis! Most of us view peanuts as nuts since they have "nut" in their name, but peanuts, in fact, belong to the legume family. They resemble legumes regarding their physical structure and nutritional benefits. And unlike other nuts, which grow on trees, peanuts grow underground.
The process of deriving organic groundnut oil can vary, influencing both its taste and colour. If cold-pressed, peanut oil obtains a dark yellow colour with a pleasant nutty aroma and sweet flavour. If it is refined, peanut oil acquires a light yellow colour and neutral taste. Peanut oil made from roasted peanuts has a deeper flavour and colour. Roasted peanut oil is best used for flavouring, or as an ingredient in dressings, sauces and marinades.
Groundnut oil has a pleasing aroma and flavour. It is slightly nutty and has natural richness that adds depth to cooked dishes. It is suitable for dishes that can either mask or welcome the nutty flavour of this oil.
Groundnut oil has a relatively high smoke point relative to other oils and is suitable for high-heat cooking methods like stir-frying or deep-frying. It is commonly used in Chinese, South Asian and South East Asian cuisines.
